Arrival of the Aeroplane "CAFTON" at Nanyuan, Peiping

(Faking).

A long distance flight undertaken in China.

For the first time a long distance flight undertaken by

Chinese in this country was successfully done by Chang Hmi-

ch'ang, Chief of the Aeronautic Department of Kwantung, who

was accompanied by Pilot Yang X'uan-yu and Huang Ya-p1ai,

President of the Kwangtung Aviation school. They started

from Nanking at 7.30 a.m. on November 19th and were expected

to arrive in Peking at & p.m. the same day;

when they reached the neighbourhood of Tientsin they had

to encounter a fog which became so thick that they were

forced to land at Langfang, on the Peking-Tientsin Railway,

and rang the night there. They resumed their journey at

9.30 a.m. the following day and after twenty minutes' flying

arrived in Peking.

State of Landing.

before their arrival preparation had been made to give

the aviators a rousing welcome at Naryuan.

Among those who

had gone to Banyuan for the occasion were Wei Yun-sang and

Yang Yi-yu, representatives of rai Tsung-ùsi ; Ho dh'i-kang,

Mayor of Peking; Liu Feng-ch'ih and Wang Sse-chiang, repres-

enting the Headquarters of the Garrison Commander; Chao Erh-

k'uan, Chief of the Bureau of rublic Safety; Chao Chang-ping,

Head of the Social Bureau; M. Darqué, Instructor of the

French Aviation School; and some twenty British and American

officers, There were also a band and one infantry regiment.

At about 10 o'clock in the morning of November 20th,

there appeared in the Southeastern sky something like a

black spot which grow bigger and bigger as the aeroplane

approached.

After making a round-sity tour the aviators

landed on the Nanyuan aerodrom at 10.15 amid the oneers

of the weloomers.
